Artist Biographies
Eleanor April
Eleanor is a budding trans writer, poet and storyteller based in Whitehorse, Yukon. Before coming to the Yukon, they were born and raised in Alberta and migrated North in 2019. She currently enjoys writing about gender, self discovery and joy under the vital editorial supervision of her cat. She’s been a Featured writer for Words Out Loud organized by Yukon Words and was second place in the Active Voices Writing Competition. Outside of writing Eleanor enjoys watching weird movies, listening to angry banjo music, and learning about human history.
Lulu Keating
As a filmmaker for many years, Canadian Lulu Keating won awards and travelled to film festivals around the world. As a writer, her literary work has been published in Geist Magazine, Parallelogram, The Globe and Mail, and North of Ordinary. In her hometown, Dawson City Yukon, the prize for her winning story was a gold nugget. Keating’s collection of short stories, Splinter and Shard, was published by in 2024 by ECW Press. Her first novel, Astrid’s Vision, is in the magic realism genre. She continues to take writing retreats to Greece where she is working on her second novel, Klondike Codfish.
Meg Henderson
Meg Henderson is a singer/songwriter who originates from Calgary, AB and has been living in the Yukon for the past 10 years. She loves to sing country and folk music. When she’s not singing and performing, she teaches music, visual arts, drama and dance at Whistle Bend Elementary School and makes pottery in her home studio to sell at craft markets. You can check out her radio show on CJUC 92.5 FM called Folkin’ Country Time on Wednesdays at 6pm.
Roy Ness
Roy has lived in Whitehorse for over 40 years, where he has written and performed for stage, radio, storytelling festivals and comedy revues. He is the author of Rutting Season, a novel set in the Northern wilderness. He also wrote Dogtown: the Musical in collaboration with composer Grant Simpson. Dogtown is based on the true story of Trevor the death row dog, which polarized the community and gained international attention. Roy finds time for writing when he is not gardening, fishing, hunting, horse logging or playing with his grandchildren.
Clea Roberts
Clea Roberts lives on the outskirts of Whitehorse. She has published two collections of poetry: Here is Where We Disembark (Freehand Books) and Auguries (Brick Books). She is currently working on a historical novel set during the Klondike gold rush and a collection of lyric essays on grief and family. Her poetry has been translated and published internationally and has been nominated for the League of Canadian Poets Gerald Lampert Award, the ReLit Award and a National Magazine Award. Clea's favourite community-building, creative work these days is facilitating grief writing workshops through Hospice Yukon.
