Producing Assistant (2 Positions)*

Under 30 and want to spend your summer in the Yukon working on theatre that can only be made here?

Nakai Theatre is seeking two (2!) summer employees to work with Nakai staff in preparing, producing and sharing Nakai’s 40th season.

The Producing Assistants will be involved with:

Landscape Theatre

Planning, coordinating and communicating production elements for a new 10-day residency taking place in late August. Duties will include:

  • identifying, sourcing and gathering materials required for the Landscape Theatre residency

  • organizing and communicating travel and accommodation to artists and attendees

  • creating and maintaining a production schedule

  • partner outreach and follow up

  • assisting with set-up on-site

  • helping to ensure guests are comfortable and have what they need to participate capably the project.

  • may be requested to accompany the team on day-trips to sites outside of Whitehorse.

Nakai’s 40th Anniversary Season

Help support research, planning, and outreach efforts in preparation of Nakai’s 40th anniversary season (2019-2020). Specific projects in process are an archival and commemoration project for Nakai’s January 2020 Pivot Festival and an April 2020 storytelling and performance project (99 Stories Not About Gold). Duties may include:

  • Cataloguing, selecting and formatting highlights from Nakai’s archive on digital platforms;

  • Working with staff to compile a list of potential plays for reading/performance at Pivot 2020;

  • Identifying key players in Nakai’s past and drafting invites for them to attend Pivot Festival 2020;

  • Assisting in developing fundraising initiatives for Pivot Festival 2020;

  • Logistics and planning for 99 Stories Not About Gold;

  • Partner outreach and follow up;

  • Research, design, budgeting and planning future professional development residency;

  • Begin forming authentic relationships and networks with local Filipino community members, as well as possible venues and partners, for the Pivot Festival 2020 project Embrace.

Each Producing Assistant be assigned one area of focus, however, both will work on each projects. Applicant preference will be considered if expressed.

What we’re looking for:

Students and early career folks interested in all or some of: Arts leadership, production and administration, land-based practices, archival and information design, community education, process design, dramaturgy / literary management, facilitation, non-profit leadership and administration.

We are looking for committed and detail-oriented candidates who are able to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Must be between 19 and 30 years of age.**

  • Experience and interest in the arts and theatre is a priority.

  • Being organized and having excellent communication skills would be an advantage.

  • Comfortable and capable with computers. Experience with Google Docs, MS Office is preferred. Experience with image processing (Photoshop / scanning) and/or Squarespace is a bonus.

  • Valid driver's license is preferred.

  • Must be legally able to work in Canada and the Yukon.

Schedule and rate: $18/hour at 30 hours a week. Evening and weekend work may be required.

Anticipated dates of employment: June 10 - August 30, 2019 (12 week contract)
