Summer Production Assistant 2021

We’re looking for a Production Assistant to join the collaborative team at Nakai for the summer. This position is based in Whitehorse, Yukon and funded through Canada Summer Jobs.

Nakai is a theatre company based in Whitehorse, Yukon – dedicated to contributing to a thriving territory and supporting creation and creators to create theatre that can only be made here. 

The Production Assistant will work with the Artistic Director and Nakai Producers, as well as other contract staff to plan, coordinate, communicate logistics, and deliver Nakai’s summer programming that includes:

Public and community puppet-making workshops and events in and around Whitehorse areas through June and July include the Adäka Festival in late June.

Responsibilities of the Production Assistant will include:

  • Identifying, sourcing and gathering materials required; 

  • Creating and maintaining schedules; 

  • Partner relations and follow up; 

  • Assisting with set-up and delivery on-site; 

  • Organizing and communicating travel and logistics to artists and attendees; 

  • Helping to ensure participants are comfortable and have what they need to participate capably in the project. 

  • This Production Assistant may be requested to accompany the team on day-trips to sites outside of the office.

All work will be done in accordance with health recommendations and will include work from home as well as some time at the Nakai office and on sites in Whitehorse. 

We are looking for a committed and detail oriented person who is able to work independently and as part of a team. 

  • Post-secondary experience and interest in theatre, the arts, community engagement and/or experiential learning is a priority. 

  • Currently living in the Yukon is preferred. We are open to applicants out of territory but don’t have resources for relocation. 14 day isolation is currently required and would be included in contract time if needed.

  • Being organized and having excellent communication skills would be an advantage 

  • Comfortable and capable with computers. Experience with Google Docs, MS Office is preferred. 

  • Valid driver's license is preferred. 

  • Be legally able to work in the Yukon. 

  • Between 18-30 years of age (this is a condition of the funding.) 

Schedule and rate: 
$20/hour at 30 hours a week.
